neutral and modern halloween home tour

Welcome to our Neutral and Modern Halloween Home Tour! I LOVE Halloween! It is my favorite holiday to decorate. But this year was a little challenging since I decided to eliminate orange from the color palette. EEK!

We built our home thirteen years ago when the popular decorating trend was Tuscany/Old World. It seemed to fit any type or color of holiday decor. But now we have incorporated more modern furniture and decor in grays and muted tones. We painted the entire interior walls of the house Revere Pewter by Benjamin Moore.

Now with a more muted palette, I didn't want a lot of bright colors. So this year the Halloween decor is in black, white, gray, and cream.

Once I finally got started decorating, I realized I added too much black. I wanted an even mix of the neutral colors, so I removed a few items until I got the look I was after, a neutral modern Halloween with a little rustic glam.

Hope you enjoy the tour!

halloween front porch decorations

Welcome! I especially love decorating the front porch for Halloween since more people see it. And it's the perfect backdrop for trick-or-treaters.

I was excited to find this cute BOO doormat at Jo-Ann's. Most of the decor I already had from previous years, but I did buy this simple black wreath at Michaels, and the welcome sign at Jo-Ann's this year.

I used almost all black decor on the front porch, but once inside I started to add a little more cream, white, and gray items.

For the entryway, I used simple decor with a little spooky to welcome guests into our home.

halloween framed saying

Framed sayings are an easy and inexpensive way to decorate. I printed this saying, cut, and framed. Just print different sayings or quotes for the seasons and holidays for a year-round custom decor.

halloween decor velvet pumpkins

I found these beautiful velvet pumpkins at a local store, Shoppe Sasha.

The dining room table is where I went a little over the top with the spooky decor, but it is still tastefully done. I like skeletons/skulls when decorating for Halloween but not the bloody or gory ones.

I found these skeleton appetizer plates and glassware at Homegoods. They were the perfect addition to the skeleton themed table setting.

The fireplace mantel was the one place I initially used too much black. I had black muslin draped across the front and under the decor. I think it looks much more elegant now.

halloween pillow

I love this pillow I found at Pottery Barn this year since it added some more gray to the room.

neutral fall decor pumpkins

A dough bowl filled with pumpkins is a great addition to your fall decor. I added this beaded necklace for a little extra pop.

halloween living room decor

I used some simple Halloween items: pumpkins, ghosts, skeletons, and crows to decorate the bookshelves in the living room. And then added pops of holiday decor around the room.

halloween bar cart

The bar cart was my favorite piece to decorate. I had lots of "potion" containers from previous years that were perfect for the new bar cart. You could easily decorate using real alcohol and garnishes.

The Halloween sign in black with chrome letters was such a great find at Homegoods. It has that modern metropolitan feel to it. And the bats add a little fright.

I decided to keep the breakfast table to simple modern decor since the dining table was a little more dressed up. I was able to find gray and cream velvet pumpkins, but I wanted to add black as well. So, I made my own.

The kitchen decor is the most minimal since I hate overdoing the decor in a space we use every day. The fresh hydrangeas add an elegant touch, and the simple little spider completes the Halloween feel.

How do you like to decorate for Halloween? Do you use spooky decorations or fall decor? What are your favorites colors to use when you decorate for the fall? I would love to see your Halloween and fall decoration pics.
